Sholay is a famous "curry" western, India's answer to the spaghetti westerns of Italy. A rousing combination of action, romance, drama, comedy, music, and revenge, Sholay is a western that is epic in the best sense, and it deserves to stand alongside other classics in the genre.
A combination of horror and western, Left for Dead's borderline experimental filming techniques, bizarre storyline, and low budget create a very strange final product that may only appeal to a few people.
The Western seems to be nearly dead as a genre these days, aside from the occasional notable addition. Some of the better recent efforts (like 2007's 3:10 to Yuma) have been remakes. As good as any remake may turn out to be, western fans may just as well spend some time hunting down some lesser-known Spaghetti Western gems that never got much notice in the USA. The Big Gundown is one of these, and it's a shame it isn't better known.
