Belly of the Beast

Elvis Presley...., sorry, Steven Seagal is secret agent man Jake Hopper, a kung fu good guy (with clazy mullet) who goes on a violent, tubby revenge trip when bad men from terrorist group Abu Karaf kidnap his brat daughter while she's sunning her arse on a backpack trip in Thailand. Ho hum.

It's the bog standard Seagal plot again—he and his family are threatened, so he turns vengeance machine and kills and judo chops one and all—'cept, unlike many features from his fat period, he actually appears to be awake here, stands in the light and actually does stuff, and the movie is a pretty decent, not too confusing action tale kitted out with some fine fight scenes. Mainly because it was made in Thailand and director 'Tony Siu Tun' has some skill and likes flipping his stunt crew thru' windows, walls and tables.

He's also fond of dull flashbacks, triple-kick edits and needless slow motion which stops this watchable clunker from becoming a gem, but at least Seagal is viewable and his lines are too short too mumble—most of the time. Not too shabby at all, just be sure to be drunk while watching.
