Wrestlemaniac

Wrestlemaniac

Also written and edited by Baget, here's a sunny, simple, low budget, 21st century teens-in-peril yarn about a van carrying an amateur porn film crew who all get stranded at a remote mexican ghost town haunted by 'El Masarado'; a serial killing 'Frankenstein' constructed out of the famous body parts of dead mexican wrestlers.

The Perfect Sleep

The Perfect SleepA nameless protagonist returns from exile to save his one true love in this strange mixture of film noir and action.  There may be violence, but there is also talking. A lot of talking. Combining film noir with martial arts is an idea that will sell itself (to a certain crowd). It’s a shame that The Perfect Sleep gets it wrong.

The Psychotronic Man Interview

Thanks to Michael J. Wheldon's now defunct (and sadly missed) Psychotronic Magazine, the word 'psychotronic' has long been used to describe thousands of exploitative, cult, 'B' films that were previously dismissed as low-brow, cheap, odd, obscure, weird, strange, exotic, stupid, great and/or stunningly bad. I never really thought about it, but when I did, I figured the word was an ancient, old thing, but no. I was wrong.

Inventor of the word, film maker/teacher, art collector, director of The Captain Kangaroo show(!) and all round kool guy, I found Jack M. Sell online while searching for 'psychotronic' movies. Already a huge fan of his 1979 mentalus opus THE PSYCHOTRONIC MAN (referred to as PM from here on in), I asked for an interview straight away to get the 911 uptown Saturday night skinny on one of my favourite films from the director himself.

Peter Spelson is Rocky Fosco, a Chicago city barber with a big quiff, sideburns and a pimp moustache. He drives around drunk listening to crap country music and fixes his hair a lot. Real life Insurance salesman Spelson wrote and produced this very bad, no budget supernatural psychic killer flick with his pal Jack M. Sell (the guy responsible for the music, editing and direction).

Enteng Kabisote

Enteng Kabisote

This bizarre Filipino fantasy film contains all sorts of things that sound interesting. Laser guns, flaming swords, martial arts, demons, irritating talking horses, ape/ninjas, and an interestingly dressed gay man-creature who calls himself Super Bird.

Sound good? Well, it’s not.

The Cabinet of Caligari

The Cabinet of Caligari

While out driving her expensive car, sappy blonde Glynis Johns (Mad About Men—54) breaks down on a remote road and is forced to ask for help at a large, swanky house owned by a mysterious and beardy Doctor played by the great Dan O’Herlihy (Robocop—87). Questioned by Dr. Caligari (O’Herlihy), Glynis automatically freaks out and ends up trapped in the weirdly decorated mansion/asylum where she soon meets more and more strange people much like herself.
